changes made in FCR: Fata people get political rights
One member of the
tribunal will be a senior civil servant of not
less than BPS-20 and with experience of tribal
administration and the other should be qualified
to be appointed as a judge of the high court
though well conversant with the local Rewaj
(customs). Considered always a black law the FCR
was devised by British colonialists in 1848 as an
instrument of subjugation meant to discipline the
Pakhtun population and establish the writ of
colonial authority. Innocent men, women and
children become victims of the draconian
regulations. Even family members were handed a
jail term for no crime of their own under the FCR.

Minorities Day

On
this occasion, the President also recounted a
number of initiatives taken by the present
Government for the welfare of the minorities and
for bringing them into the mainstream of national
life. Reservation of 5% quota in government
jobs/services, reservation of 4 seats for them in
Senate, declaration of 11th August, as Minority
Day, optional holiday and celebrating religious
festivals of minorities at official level, a
hundred percent increase in the Minority
Development Fund and establishment of prayer rooms
in all prisons of Pakistan were among various
steps taken for the welfare of minorities, he

A meeting of
federal ministers belonging to Sindh was held
at Presidency today. The meeting presided over
by President Asif Ali Zardari was attended by
Makhdoom Amin Fahim, Dr. Abdul Hafeez Sheikh,
Mr. A. Rehman Malik, Moula Bakhsh Chandio, Mr.
Ghous Bux Khan Mahar, Syed Khursheed Shah, Dr.
Asim Hussain and Syed Naveed Qamar. Dr.
Firdous Ashiq Awan, Ms. Rukhsana Bangash, Ms.
Fouzia Habib and Spokesperson to the President
Mr. Farhatullah Babar were also present during
the meeting. The meeting discussed in detail
current political situation in the province of
Sindh.

reiterated to continue dialogue with all the
political forces in the province with a view
to fulfil democratic aspiration of the people
of the province.

Spokesperson
to the President said that the President also
asked NADRA to significantly reduce the charges of
Benazir Smart Card so that it was easily
affordable. The President also urged all the
leading commercial banks to partner with BISP in
introducing the Smart Card in all parts of the
country and making it ATM friendly also.

partner with BISP in implementation of Benazir

meeting with Senior Minister for Industries
President Asif Ali Zardari today
advised the Government to expedite setting up
motorcycle manufacturing plant to relieve
pressure on public transport and facilitate the
low income groups with an economical and
affordable means of transport.

Taking
serious note of the continuing power shortage in
thecountry, President Asif Ali Zardari today
directed the three key ministers dealing with the
subject to sort out administrative, financial and
technical issues among themselves and submit a
report to him early next week on ‘alternate viable
options’. The chronic energy shortage has become a
critical issue, the President said and added that
a political Government which is accountable to the

Presidency on law and order situation in Karachi

concerning law and order situation, coalition
matters and performance of various provincial
ministries were discussed during the meeting. The
President during the meeting called upon all the
political forces to complement Government’s

Meeting on Attabad
lake & KKH in the Presidency
Islamabad,
02 Aug. 11: A high level meeting in the Presidency
today reviewed the progress made so far regarding
lowering of Attabad lake level in the Hunza Valley
and the reconstruction and realignment of the
portion of KKH that was damaged as a result of
massive landslide of January last year. The
meeting was held to review the progress made over
the decisions taken during an earlier meeting held
in the Presidency in July last year.

The court in its 35
page judgment referred to the statements of
various prosecution witnesses and the arguments of
defence counsel Muhammad Arshad Tabrez and said
that the pre-shipment scheme and the award of
contract to SGS and Cotecna had brought in
additional 27 billion rupees in national
exchequer. Indeed for each dollar paid by the
government to the companies the government
benefited by nearly 7 dollars in additional

founding convention held in Lahore on Nov
30 - Dec 1, 1967. At the same meeting, Zulfikar Ali

The Co-Chairman - PPP
Mr.
Zardari was elected Senator in 1997 and served in that

Pakistan Peoples Party in January 2008 following the
assassination of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto. Mr.
Zardari's political career spans two decades spent working
closely with Shaheed Benazir Bhutto. During this period he
helped formulate policies that expanded the freedom of the
media, revolutionized telecommunications and opened
Pakistan for foreign direct investment. During Shaheed
