Islamabad, 28 April 2008: "The achievements of Shaheed Bhutto were many and varied. From the unanimous Constitution to nuclear programme, from protecting Pakistan from external aggression to the holding of Organization of Islamic Summit in Lahore in 1974, from launching developmental projects like the Karakoram Highway, Port Qasim and Kamrah Aeronautical Complex to giving Azad Kashmir an autonomous status with its own President, Prime Minister and Judiciary and giving Balochistan Provincial status are some of his achievements." This was said in a message by Co-Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party, Senator Asif Ali Zardari to the launching ceremony of a book "Ideals of Bhutto" authored by eminent writer and poet Dr. Maqsood Jafri in New York Yesterday.

The ceremony was presided over by General Secretary PPP, USA Mr. Tanweer Shafqat and attended by a large number of writers, columnists, political and social activists.

The message by Co-Chairman PPP reads, "Freedom and emancipation of people were the ideals of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto. That is why he gave every Pakistani the right to passport, introduced the habeas corpus for the first time, emancipated the people in the tribal and Northern areas, introduced land reforms and ended the jagirdari system. Indeed he changed the contours of the politics of Pakistan. An invincible Pakistan was Shaheed Bhutto's ideal. It was in pursuit of this ideal that when the ambitious dictators brought defeat to the nation in 1971, it was the
Quaid e Awam who pieced together the country and raised the morale of a demoralized people by bringing back five thousand square miles of territory, ninety thousand prisoners of war as well as saving the country from the humiliation of war crimes tribunals. It was Shaheed Bhutto's ideal to empower the people and make them the real masters of their destiny. It was his ideal to give voice to the voiceless people in a way that revolutionized politics and political landscape of Pakistan.  It was his ideal to give pride to every Pakistani, irrespective of race, religion or gender.

Praising the efforts of Dr. Maqsood Jafri, the message reads, "On reading the book readers will be convinced of the greatness of Shaheed Bhutto as a leader, reformer and thinker. A true measure of a great person is that when ordinary mortals embrace his ideals they themselves achieve extraordinary status in life. By this touchstone alone Shaheed Bhutto was a great and extraordinary leader. "The Ideals of Bhutto" is a treatise on the achievements of a great political thinker and 'Pakistan's modernizer' who left deep footprints in the sands of history. I am confident that the book will inspire the readers to dedicate themselves to the ideals of Bhutto."

Dr Maqsood Jafri is author of more than a dozen books. He has not only a flair for writing but also wields a powerful pen which he has used in his book "Ideals of Bhutto".

Dr. Maqsood Jafri, Tanveer Shafqat, General Secretary PPP, USA, PPP USA leader Khalid Awan, Farasat Chaudhry, Malik Iqbal Awan, Malik Mushtaq, Khawaja Farooq, Sardar Nasarullah, Ramzan Rana, Dr. Shafiq, Kamran Rizvi, Inam Abbasi, Dr. Egon, an American political analyst and Arshad Chaudhry spoke on the Occasion and paid glowing tributes to Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto.
