Benazir Bhutto symbol of fight
against dictatorship, extremism and tyranny

PPP Co-Chairman asks Party workers to follow
her footsteps
Islamabad June 20, 2008: The PPP Co-Chairman Mr. Asif Ali Zardari has asked
the Party workers to rededicate themselves to the mission of Shaheed
Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto "whose life was dedicated to defending the country
against dictatorship, extremism and tyranny and to give to the people
respect, dignity and honor".
He said this in a message on the fifty fifth birth anniversary of Shaheed
Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto falling today on June 21.
The PPP Co-Chairman also asked the workers to donate blood for the ailing
and suffering as a token of remembrance that she shed her blood for the
cause of the country and the people.
He said that while we pay her tributes for what she did for democracy, for
the country and for the Party the birthday was also an occasion to pledge
that we will continue to tread the path illumined by her with her
blood.
Mr. Asif Zardari also echoed the somber warning of Shaheed Mohtarma Bhutto
contained in her political will, "I fear for the future of Pakistan. Please
continue the fight against extremism, dictatorship, poverty and ignorance".
He asked the people to work for a glorious future for our people to live at
peace with themselves and with their
neighbors.
Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto led the Party
upfront ever since a military dictator seized power in a coup in 1977 and
sent the country's first directly elected Prime Minister to the gallows, he
said.
During her last meeting with Quaid e Awam, she pledged to continue his
mission for a democratic Federation and for the emancipation of the people
from hunger, disease, illiteracy and unemployment. There was no turning back
from that commitment, he said.
Since then and throughout the past three decades, with its triumphs and
tragedies, she never wavered in the commitment that she made on that fateful
day. She was sustained in the struggle by the abiding love and commitment to
democratic ideals of Party workers and democracy loving forces.
"I wish to thank you, my brothers and sisters, for standing shoulder to
shoulder with her in facing tyranny".
Paying tributes to the Party workers he said that the former Prime Minister
was truly proud of the workers who together with her, "faced bullets, tear
gas, baton charges and imprisonment and together with her they stood
strong".
He recalled her last political in which she had said of the Party workers,
"I was honoured to lead you. No leader could be as proud of their Party,
their dedication, devotion and discipline to the mission of Quaid i Awam
Zulfikar Ali Bhutto for a federal, democratic and egalitarian Pakistan as I
have been proud of you".
Like the Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto he too take pride in the jiyalas of
the PPP who have kept the banner of truth, justice and the people flying
high, Mr. Zardarri's message said.
Mr. Asif Ali Zardari also recalled and paid
tributes to the martyrs of democracy who laid down their lives or suffered
grievous injuries on July 17, 2007 in Islamabad, May 12, 2007 in Karachi,
October 18, 2007 in Karachi and on December 27, 2007 in Rawalpindi when she
finally laid down her life for the cause.
