Islamabad May 19, 2008: Hearing in the case of PPP workers for demonstrating against the anti terrorism law will be held in the court of civil judge and judicial magistrate Islamabad Tuesday.

Dozens of Party activists were charged for holding protest demonstration in front of the Parliament House on April 22, 1998 against the anti-terrorism legislation, which was then passed by the Parliament and gave sweeping powers to the executive.

The anti terror law not only loosely defined the terms of terrorism and civil commotion opening gates of misuse by the executive but also gave powers to the police and law enforcing agencies the right to kill.

Police baton charged the PPP activists and rounded up dozens of them.

In a statement today spokesperson of the Party has advised all Party workers and activists to be present in the court of civil judge on Tuesday May 20.

Those named in the FIR include MNAs Nayyar Bokhari, Naheed Khan, former Senator Farhatullah Babar, former Advisor Chaudhry Aslam, former city president Ibrar Rizvi, Qazi Sultan Mahmood, Rashid Mir, Malik Abdul Majid, Raja Mansoor, Shabbir Anjum, Raja Shiraz Ahmad, Shabbir Babar, Haji Muhammad Rashid, Ibni Rizvi, Jehangir Akhtar, Qamar Zaman, Haji Ijaz Ahmad Javed, Tariq Amin and Khawaja Wasim.

The last hearing in the case was held on March 5, 2007.
