Jamali’s son
accused of illegally occupying land
The Nation,
January 27, 2004
Prime Minister
Mir Zafarullah Jamali’s son Fareedullah Jamali has been accused of illegally
occupying 10,000 acres of land belonging to poor farmers in District Thatta,
reported BBC on Monday. In a resolution adopted unanimously, District Council
Thatta demanded of the government to take notice of the cruelties being
committed on poor farmers by the influential people in the coastal tehsil of
Mirpur Sakro. The Council session, which was held on Friday last, was presided
by District Naib Nazim Shaukat Hussain Malkaani. Pro-government District Nazim
Shafqat Shah Sherazi was also present. Nazim Union Council Mirpur Sakro and
member District Council Thatta Abdul Ghani Gabol presented the resolution in
which it was alleged that Prime Minister’s son Fareedullah Jamali along with his
two friends Ghani Rindh and Hassan Barohi are harassing the Haris of the tehsil.
It was stated in the resolution that Fareedullah Jamali and his accomplices have
illegally occupied 10,000 acres of land in different villages of the area.
They demanded
an investigation and protection for the Haris.
Taking
notice of the complaint, District Nazim Shafqat Shah Sherazi directed District
Coordination Officer (DCO) to investigate the matter and present a report in the
next session of the Council. Meanwhile, Ghani Rindh said that the land belongs
to his forefathers. However, Abdul Ghani Gabol rejected his claim and said that
the record of the Revenue Department shows that the Haris are the owners of this
land for quite a long time. A spokesman of Federal Government’s Information
Department in Hyderabad maintained that there is no truth in reports that
Fareedullah Jamali has illegally occupied the land. Last week, PPP Sindh
President Nisar Ahmad Khuro accused Fareedullah Jamali of illegally occupying
land in this coastal district.
